Recently, Delta School District held this year’s Concours d’art oratoire at South Delta Secondary.
This annual event cohosted by the Delta Chapter of Canadians for French (CPF) and the Delta School District showcases the speaking abilities of Delta’s French Immersion, Core French, and Francophone students.
Almost 600 students competed at the school level in February and March, sending 41 finalists on to compete at the District level.
Congratulations to the following students who won in their category:
French Immersion
Grade 6 — Nicholas Jacobs, école South Park Elementary
Grade 7 — Rheanna Brach – école Devon Gardens Elementary
Grade 8 — Yana Fershtein – école Burnsview Secondary
Grade 9 — Alyssa Zeneli – école Burnsview Secondary
Grade 10 — Rosie Murano – école Burnsview Secondary
Grade 12 — Daniella Benetton – école Burnsview Secondary
Francophone
Grade 6 — Melanie Hopkins, école South Park Elementary
Grade 7 — Milind Beeharry, école Richardson Elementary
Grade 10 — Mattéo Priolet – école Burnsview Secondary
Grade 12 — Luc Guétré – école Burnsview Secondary
Core French (FSL)
Grade 10 — Abnash Bassi, école Seaquam Secondary
These 11 winners will now go on to compete at the Provincial level on Saturday May 6 at SFU’s Surrey campus. Grade 12 winners in the various categories at the Provincial level will then go on to compete at the national level in Ottawa for prizes that include up to $20,000 scholarships to the University of Ottawa.
