Are You Interested in Becoming a Trustee with the Delta Board of Education?

School trustees are elected members of a board of education. They represent the public and advocate for public education in their community. They have one primary mandate: improving learning for all students.

The board is responsible for setting the overall direction for the school district. Trustees help establish the strategic plan and are responsible for oversight of the school district’s annual budget. Trustees don’t manage daily school or district operations, which is the role of the Superintendent of Schools.

Local school trustee elections allow the community an important opportunity to lead and oversee investment in public education. The next general local elections will be held on October 17, 2026.

As per the School Act, to be eligible to run as a candidate, you must meet the following criteria at the time of your nomination:

18 years of age or older on general voting day
Canadian citizen
Resident of B.C. for at least six months prior to the date of nomination
Not disqualified by any act or law from voting in British Columbia, or from being nominated for, elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law
