Delta Board of Education Honours Students at Final Public Meeting of the School Year

At the final public board meeting of the 2025–2026 school year, trustees recognized the outstanding achievements of more than 20 students. Prior to the meeting, students and their families attended a reception where science fair projects were on display, and Seaquam Secondary’s award-winning robotics team delivered an impressive live demonstration.

Science Fair Success

The first group recognized included students who earned top honours at the 2026 South Fraser Regional Science Fair. Congratulations to:

  • Amare Pooni (Sands Secondary) – Intermediate Bronze
  • Arissa Kumar and Reina Gardiner (Devon Gardens Elementary) – Junior Silver
  • Rushil Patel (Delview Secondary) – Intermediate Silver
  • Hammad Khan (Jarvis Elementary) – BC Game Developers Award
  • Netta Tzafrir (Delta Secondary) – Julia Lane Scholarship Nominee
  • Libbi Tzafrir (Delta Secondary) – Senior Silver
  • Kashyap Mistry (Delta Secondary) – Senior Silver
  • Natamonphisut Lapnaorongchai (Seaquam Secondary) – Intermediate Silver

The Board extended sincere thanks to the teachers and principals who supported these students throughout their Science Fair journey.

Young Reporters for the Environment Awards

Next, students from Seaquam Secondary were honoured for their success in the 2026 National Young Reporters for the Environment Competition:

  • First Place: Agaazvir Sahanserwal, Bowen Wan, and Gurmehar Randhawa for Life for the Soul, Nectar for the Body
  • Second Place: Gurmehar Randhawa and Tanya Randhawa for Harvesting Hope!
  • Third Place: Suzie Jacobs and Megan Kautzman for Growing Through the Pollution of Earth!

Special recognition was given to teacher Michael Iachetta for his continued mentorship and leadership in this important national competition.

Robotics Team Makes History

Members of Seaquam Secondary’s Robotics Team 9181C were also celebrated for their remarkable achievement in winning the Excellence Award at the 2026 VEX Robotics World Championship. This accomplishment marks the first time a British Columbia team—and only the second Canadian team in the competition’s history—has received this prestigious award.

Students recognized included those who competed at the Regional Championship, which qualified the team for the World Championship, and those that competed at the World Championship.

The Board thanked teacher Lanz Singbeil for years of dedicated coaching and leadership in building a highly successful robotics program.

Provincial Champions Recognized

Although unable to attend the meeting, the South Delta Sun Devils Senior Girls AAAA Volleyball Team was also recognized for winning the provincial championship. Congratulations to the team and coaches Gatlin Saip, Take Katsube, and Mike Kilpatrick on an exceptional season.
