Delta School District to resume in-person public Board meetings

Category: DistrictSchool

Starting with the first public Board meeting of the 2020/2021 school year on September 29, the district is moving to a format that will allow for a combination of in-person attendance (subject to room capacity limits) and remote/online participation.

“Over the last few months, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been holding Board meetings using video conferencing technology,” said Val Windsor, Board Chair. “We are committed to making the public Board meeting as accessible to the public as possible, and so we have been working with district staff to find a way that will allow us to return to holding in-person meetings at the Board Office in a way that is safe and adheres to the provincial health and safety guidelines. Although we are fairly limited to the number of people we can have in the room due to physical distancing requirements, we felt very strongly that it was important to give our stakeholders an opportunity to engage with the Board face-to-face.”

The Delta Board of Education meets formally once a month as its designated means of transacting Board business. The Board meetings will take place in the boardroom at the school district office located at 4585 Harvest Drive, Delta.

The district will assign one seat for each of its partner groups (DTA, CUPE, DPVPA and DPAC) at every public Board meeting. Up to two seats will be assigned to the media if requested in advance. Due to room capacity limits and to ensure physical distancing requirements are met, this means that there will be a maximum of five seats available for members of the public. Once the maximum room capacity is reached, attendees will be asked to participate remotely/online by watching the live proceedings on YouTube and submitting questions via email.

Please visit the district’s website for more information on how to reserve a seat at the meeting.
