New outdoor classrooms at elementary schools

Many thanks to the district’s Facilities and Maintenance team who were extremely busy over the summer making upgrades to schools across the district. Here is just some of the work that took place:

  • New playgrounds installed at Port Guichon and Jarvis Elementary schools (official openings expected this fall) and preparation for a new playground at Ladner Elementary
  • Outdoor classrooms at Cougar Canyon, Hawthorne, McCloskey and Jarvis Elementary schools
  • Fencing at Annieville and Pinewood Elementary schools and Delta Secondary
  • Paving at Hawthorne, Devon Gardents, and Health Elementary schools and Delview Secondary
  • High voltage transformer replacements at Holly and Brooke Elementary schools
  • Roofing upgrades and/or replacement at Pinewood and Annieville Elementary schools
  • A portable classroom was moved from Delta Secondary to Ladner Elementary
  • Replacement of an Automotive Shop rooftop unit at North Delta Secondary
  • Plumbing upgrades to washrooms at Cliff Drive Elementary and Seaquam Secondary, and installation of an accessible washroom at Hawthorne Elementary
  • New food room at South Delta Secondary
  • Replacement of a walk-in freezer at South Delta Secondary

“While the schools are quiet over the summer, it’s our busiest time of year,”said Darren Duff, Director, Facilities and Planning. “We take the opportunity to get into the schools while there are no staff and students around to complete any maintenance projects or upgrades that are needed in time for the start of the new school.”
