Happy Holidays from the Delta School District and Board of Education

Category: DistrictSchool

Schools will be closed from December 19 until January 3, with classes resuming at all schools on Monday, January 4, 2021.

As we head into the winter holidays, I wanted to thank you all – staff, students, and families for your commitment to following our health and safety protocols. Your ongoing support is key to our success in navigating the COVID-19 pandemic.

In spite of the challenging time we’ve had in 2020, I am reminded of the many accomplishments the Delta School District has achieved during the year. It’s been a year of constant change and adaptation, and I can say with great pride that our students and staff have showed wonderful resilience, compassion and tenacity. Our educators and support staff have worked incredibly hard to maintain a safe, stable and focussed learning environment for our students and I am so thankful for their talent and daily efforts.

This holiday season, I hope you will join me in taking a few moments to reflect on the positive impact our students, parents, and staff have made to their school communities and to each other during 2020. I am very proud of the strong emphasis we place on relationships and caring in our schools, in addition to excellence in teaching and learning. This year, we have seen countless examples of compassion and support in the district – from the staff drive-by parades in the spring, to the school food drives and fundraising endeavours to help those most in need in our communities, and the recent Christmas card and letter writing projects to connect with local seniors in care homes. These examples of compassion and support of one another is truly wonderful and much appreciated.

Although the holidays are set to be very different than many of us are used to, I hope you will find safe ways to connect with your loved ones. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my wishes of peace, love, joy and hope to all members of our Delta School District community.

Have a wonderful holiday season, and a happy and most importantly, healthy 2021.

Warm wishes,

Doug Sheppard
Superintendent of Schools
