Happy New Year – A Message from Superintendent Sheppard

As the 2016-17 school year is about to begin for all students and staff, I have my usual early September excitement and questions for the year ahead – something I have felt every September since I became a teacher. This is a new year and a new role for me in the district; however, things also feel very familiar and comfortable. As a graduate of South Delta Secondary, a current resident and parent in North Delta, and having worked in the district since 2010 I feel completely connected to this amazing school district, and feel very honoured to be able to act as the Superintendent of Schools.

The staff in this district are exceptionally dedicated to our students and families. Their work to make the Delta School District A Leading District for Innovative Teaching and Learner Success continues to excite and focus my work as this year begins.

There is much to be excited about this school year. New curriculum and assessment opportunities promise to engage students more deeply in their learning. Educators have more freedom to inspire their students in topics and ideas to bring this new curriculum to life. This will play out differently in every classroom, and we will strive to share our stories and learn from one another as the year progresses.

As this year begins, I wish you all a wonderfully creative, thoughtful and successful school year.

Deepest Regards,

Doug Sheppard, Superintendent of Schools
