Inaugural Board Meeting and the Annual Election of the Chair and Vice Chair

At the inaugural Board meeting last night, four trustees – Nimmi Daula, Ammen Dhillon, Masako Gooch and Joe Muego – were sworn in for the first time, alongside returning trustees Erica Beard, Nick Kanakos and Val Windsor. The ceremony took place at the Delta School Board offices on Harvest Drive in Ladner.

As the first order of business of their four-year term, the Delta Board of Education selected a new Chair and Vice Chair. Long-time trustee Val Windsor was re-elected to serve as Chairperson of the seven-member board for the upcoming year. Windsor, who has served on the Board since 2011, held the position of Vice-Chairperson from 2013–2018. She was elected Chairperson for the first time in 2019.

Returning trustee Erica Beard was elected to the role of Vice-Chairperson for the upcoming year. She has served on the Delta Board of Education since 2018.

The Board of Education Chair and Vice-Chair are elected annually. The next Public Board Meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 6.


Val Windsor

Val Windsor is a retired teacher whose involvement in public education spans more than 50 years. She is also a past President of the Delta Teachers’ Association, former BC Teachers Federation Executive member and has served as a school trustee since 2011. Her work as a trustee includes serving on the Indigenous Education and Inclusive Education committees in Delta, and she is past Chair of the Metro Vancouver English Language Learners Consortium, a group that advocates for services for immigrant and refugee students. Chair Windsor is also a dedicated and busy community volunteer in Delta.


Erica Beard

A lifelong Delta resident, Erica Beard is a passionate advocate for healthy and active communities where families can thrive. She is a registered nurse with experience in a wide variety of healthcare fields including clinical practice and education. She was first elected to the Delta School Board in 2018 and is looking forward to continuing to build on the board’s achievements over the last four years by advancing key priorities, including improving accessibility, inclusivity and the health and wellness of the school environment. Vice Chair Beard enjoys staying active, hiking and hosting game nights with friends and family.
