Sands Secondary Students Score at Skills Canada BC Regionals

Category: District

Skills Canada BC hosted regional competitions in communities around the province earlier this year and several Sands Secondary students won medals for their efforts.

Helena, who was one of four Sands students to compete in the Photography Competition, took home the bronze medal. The competition involved students taking photos with the following prompts: portrait, macro/abstract, friendship/happy, reflection, teamwork and black and white school architecture. The students had just five hours to take and edit the photos!

Two pairs of students from Sands also entered the Video Production Competition. They were given a prompt to include in their video and just five hours to complete the project. Congratulations to Sawyer and Charlie for taking the bronze and Noah and Shyna who placed fourth.

Shyna and Noah made a short horror film. “It was really stressful,” says Shyna. “I was like ‘oh five hours to make a sixty second film isn’t going to take very long’ but when we came down to it, we were down to the very last minute and submitted it the very last minute that we could.”

Skills Canada BC’s Regional competitions provide opportunities for competitors and student spectators, to learn about careers in the skilled trades and technology sectors by watching live competitions and try-a-trade activities.
