Two Delta Elementary Students Honoured as “Chiefs for a Day” with Delta Police
Last week, two local elementary school students, Evan Rusticus and Morgan McDonough kept Delta Police on their toes as the two were sworn in as, “Chief Constables for the Day”.
Their day started at 8:00 a.m. sharp. First, Evan and Morgan were fitted with a DPD uniform (of sorts), then sworn- in by Chief Dubord.
The two then attended the morning management meeting and were briefed on what was happening in the different sections within DPD.
The new Chiefs then had a tour of the Headquarters building and spent time with members of Senior Management on the ‘ins and outs’ of running a policing organization—all this before lunch.
After lunch with Chief Dubord the two honorary Chiefs went for a ride along and spent some time learning officer safety tips and tactics from School Liaison Officer, Cst. Mike Atkinson.
Delta Police has introduced the “Chief for a Day “program by first offering it as a fundraising opportunity for a local school.
Chief Dubord states, “It’s important for the Delta Police to connect with our young people. Their energy and enthusiasm allows for mutual learning. We learn as police how to better connect with our youth and what is important and they learn about policing in Delta. I had a great day and I am hoping they enjoyed their experience.”
