Update on SDSS Sports Track

Category: DistrictSchool

UPDATE: April 27, 2018

Delta School District maintenance staff are working on the South Delta Secondary School sports track, to ensure a safe and usable field for the District’s upcoming Track & Field season.

The company who has done repairs to the rubber coating in the past visited the track recently, and unfortunately, they are unable to do any further repairs to the coating. The track is aged, and is unsafe for student use.

In order to ensure that zone and district track meets can proceed, a decision was made late last week to remove the rubber coating and create a lined, asphalt track. The money for this repair is covered in the district’s current maintenance budget. This temporary repair will be completed in approximately a week, in time for these events. The hope is that re-coating of the track will be completed at a future date.

Maintenance staff have stripped out the old rubber surface, down to the asphalt underneath, and will now be working to paint running lane lines.  Barring any unforeseen weather conditions, the work should be completed as anticipated by Monday afternoon, and students will be able to use the track again by May 1st.
