A Message from Delta School Board Chairperson, Joe Muego
World Teachers’ Day is held annually on October 5th to celebrate all teachers around the globe. It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets out the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions. World Teachers’ Day has been celebrated since 1994.
The Canadian Teachers’ Federation’s theme for the day this year is “Making lives better”. Teachers’ influence extends far beyond the classroom. We know that teachers have a profound impact on society by equipping students with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to succeed. They also support students, strengthen families, and enrich our communities.
Most of us can name at least one teacher in our lives whose kind words, belief in our talents or encouragement to preserve and follow our dreams changed our lives. Without teachers we would have no doctors, lawyers, mechanics, musicians or chefs. As a thriving society – we are in your debt.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, let’s take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all staff within our district – educators, support staff, school and district administrators, CUPE 1091 and DTA members – for their outstanding hard work and unwavering commitment to supporting Delta students.
Thank you
A Message from Delta School District Superintendent, Doug Sheppard
I would like to add to Joe’s comments. World Teachers’ Day is a heartfelt tribute to the dedicated educators who show up every day with care, courage and creativity, leaving a positive impact on our young people. Here in Delta, we are proud to take part in this global celebration to help acknowledge the invaluable contributions of teachers and their role in pursuing our Vision of being an innovative, inclusive community where all learners belong and everyone soars.
Please join me in taking a moment on October 5 to thank everyone who has chosen to follow a career in education, and for their focus on the Delta School District’s Vision for 2030.
