A Message from Delta School Board Chairperson, Joe Muego
It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets out the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions. World Teachers’ Day has been celebrated since 1994.
The theme for 2026 is “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures.” World Teachers’ Day is a day to celebrate how teachers are transforming education, but also to reflect on the support they need to thrive, maximize their impact, and elevate the status of the profession globally.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, let’s take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all staff within our district – educators, support staff, school and district administrators, CUPE 1091 and DTA members – for their outstanding hard work and unwavering commitment to supporting Delta students.
Thank you
A Message from Delta School District Superintendent, Doug Sheppard
I would like to add my thanks and appreciation on this World Teachers’ Day.
Teaching is a profession that shapes lives, strengthens communities and helps build a better future. Every day, Delta educators inspire curiosity, foster belonging, support student well-being, and help learners discover their strengths and potential. They innovate and respond to the diverse needs of students with professionalism, compassion and expertise. As a result, their influence extends far beyond the classroom and leaves a lasting impact on students, families and our entire community.
On behalf of the Delta School District, I extend my sincere gratitude to all teachers for their commitment to learning, inclusion and student success. Thank you for the care, knowledge and encouragement you bring to your work each day, and for helping advance our Vision of being an innovative, inclusive community where all learners belong and everyone soars.
Happy World Teachers’ Day.
