World Teachers’ Day – A Message from Laura Dixon, Board Chairperson

World Teachers’ Day is a UNESCO initiative held annually on the 5th of October, and is a day devoted to celebrating the teaching profession and raising awareness of the issues faced by educators of the world.

The Delta Board of Education is humbled to be able to support the work of our teachers. We are also incredibly lucky to hear story after story of the positive impact Delta teachers are having on their students.  In Delta, we all work hard to continuously improve on our learner success and to support our educators in and out of the classroom. We also acknowledge that there are still challenges ahead facing us in our District, our province and across the country.

World Teachers’ Day is not meant to just focus on our achievements, but provides a time to look at and address issues pertaining to teachers through a global lens.

As we know, education is pivotal for development in a rapidly changing world and investing wisely in teachers and education, transform the long-term prospects of people and societies.

In Delta we are blessed with a community of teachers who strive for excellence and innovation every day.  In their commitment to better the lives of youth, our teachers go above and beyond for their students’ educational success.

The Delta Board of Education encourages you to watch this video (or click the link below) and to then take a moment to reflect on these important issues for teachers worldwide.
