Early Childhood Education (ECE)
Delta Early Childhood Education Program
Delta Continuing Education has been teaching Early Childhood Education in various forms since 1969, when it was the “Kindergarten and Preschool Teacher Training” program. Delta Continuing Education is provincially approved as a training institution for Early Childhood Education Basic and Post-Basic Certificates, and is certified by Human Resources & Social Development Canada.
The Delta Early Childhood Education Basic Certificate meets the academic requirements necessary to apply for a provincial Licence to Practise as an Early Childhood Educator. Post-Basic courses allow Basic Certificate holders to pursue the additional License to Practice as a Special Needs Educator (working with children requiring extra support) and/or the License to Practice as an Infant/ Toddler Educator (working with children under 30 months of age).
E.C.E. Program Information Sessions are held throughout the year. For the next available date, please visit https://cimsweb.deltasd.bc.ca/publicconnect/deevents.aspx .
Early Childhood Education (E.C.E) Basic Certificate
2 Year Part-Time Evening Program
The Delta Early Childhood Education Basic Certificate program prepares students to work in a licensed child care facility, supporting children who have varying family, cultural, and individual needs. To work as a licensed Early Childhood Educator in B.C., you are required to have received training from an Early Childhood Educator Registry-approved training program such as Delta Early Childhood Education. Approved programs offer course curriculum that fulfils provincial requirements and prepares students for licensure and employment in the Early Childhood Education sector in B.C. The Delta E.C.E. Basic Certificate Program is offered on a part-time evening schedule with daytime practicums.

Early Childhood Education Diploma - Post-Basic Studies for Special Needs and Infant/Toddler
The diploma studies program is an extension of the Early Childhood Education Basic Certificate program and provides an opportunity for career and educational advancement for ECE graduates. Students must have completed all the academic work in the ECE Basic Certificate program prior to applying for the Post-Basic courses that make up the ECE Diploma. The advanced courses lead to a License to Practice as a Special Needs Early Childhood Educator, working in integrated settings with children requiring extra support, and/or a License to Practice as an Infant and Toddler Early Childhood Educator, working with children under three years old. You may opt to complete one specialization and receive a certificate in that specialty only or, if you complete the courses for both the Special Needs and the Infant /Toddler specializations, you will be granted a Diploma in Early Childhood Education. Both areas of specialization consist of 4 common core courses, as well as one specialty course and a practicum. Students may start post-basic courses in September, January, or April.
