When I look back at the 2020/2021 school year, I feel overwhelmed by gratitude and appreciation.

I’m thankful for our students for remaining committed to their learning while navigating a wide range of health and safety guidelines and protocols – physical distancing, hand washing, following directional signage, completing health checks and wearing masks to name just a few!

I’m thankful for every single one of our staff for supporting our students and each other through the last 10 months – for many of you, the last 16 months of this pandemic. It has not been easy.  I know you are all exhausted, and hope you enjoy a very well-deserved break over the next two months.

I’m also very thankful for our students’ families and caregivers for stepping up to support their children, our schools and our community through these difficult times.

I am so proud that we were able to provide in-class instruction throughout the entire school year. We could not have done it without the fantastic support from our students, staff and families. So, although it was not a ‘usual’ school year, there is much to be celebrated.

I think it’s safe to say we are all looking forward to a more normal school year starting this fall. We anticipate being able to provide more detailed information around the return to school towards the end of August.

The school district is currently developing its Vision 2030 and has involved staff, students, parents and the wider community in the visioning process. We look forward to launching our new vision in the fall. Stay tuned for more information.

At this time of year, we have to bid a fond farewell to the many staff who are retiring. Thank you to our retirees for your passion and commitment to our students, and for creating a wonderful legacy in the Delta School District.

To our 2021 grads, you have proven yourselves capable of so many things over the past 13 years.  You have much to be proud of and we are very proud of you.  Thank you for your resiliency, and congratulations and best wishes for a happy, healthy and fulfilling future!

To all of our Delta students, staff and families, I wish you a restful, safe and enjoyable summer.

See you in September!

Sincerely,

Doug Sheppard
Superintendent, Delta School District
