On Tuesday, June 17th, Delview Secondary School came alive with creativity, innovation, and school spirit as students showcased their work in the school’s largest-ever Celebration of Learning. The hallways were transformed into a gallery, highlighting student projects from a wide range of subjects including Textiles, Foods, English, Engineering, Drafting, InfoTech, Drama, and the Grade 12 Capstone program.
This open-house style event invited families, friends, and community members to explore the diverse talents of Delview students. Highlights included:
- Live Drama Performances: Drama students captivated audiences with original plays performed in the Drama Studio.
- Retro Arcade Experience: InfoTech students turned the computer labs into a nostalgic arcade, featuring custom-designed video games.
- Tasty Treats and Handmade Goods: Foods students offered delicious baked goods and snacks, while other students sold unique handmade gifts.
Among the many impressive projects on display were:
- Foam House Models by Taran (Grade 10), Eshaan (Grade 9), and Neha (Grade 10)
- Hat Holder Design by Lakshmi and Ace
- Artwork by Addy (Grade 12), depicting the struggle toward joy
- Model Airplane – Vickers Wellington MK2 by Oakley (Grade 12), inspired by his great-grandfather’s service as a mechanic in Britain’s Royal Air Force
- Book Summary Presentation by Sagrika (Grade 12)
- Costume Design for Book Characters by Simran (Grade 12)
Reflecting on the event, teacher Mr. Kung shared his pride in the students’ achievements and the collaborative spirit that made the exhibition a success: “For students, this event was the culmination of a semester full of struggling, failing, and persistence, resulting in the work that you see today. I’ve always believed that just like with musicians, it makes a huge difference when students have a “gig” – an opportunity to showcase and be proud of their learning in front of a real audience. I’m proud of what they’ve accomplished this year and the quality of work that students have showcased at our Exhibition. We have some big plans for next year so keep an eye out for that!”
The celebration continued into the evening with Delview’s Fine Arts Night, featuring additional art displays and live performances.
