At the first Public Board Meeting of the year on January 10, 2023, attendees were treated to a wonderful presentation from international students who shared their reasons for wanting to study here in Delta.

Reason for studying abroad: Isabella originally came to Delta for a Grade 6 summer program and liked it so much that she decided to come back
Favourite memory: Celebrating her 14th birthday with a special dinner with her homestay family, which also coincided with her last day of travel-related quarantine (Isabella arrived during the pandemic)
Long-term career plans: To complete her university education in Canada

Favourite memory: Seeing the Equinox Theatre and feeling that Delta was going to be something really special. Look out for Petra in the school’s upcoming production of Grease – she was chosen for the lead role of Sandy!

International Student Program – By Numbers
As of January 1, 2023, there are 593 international Students in the Delta School District from 34 different countries.
- 535 – Secondary School
- 58 – Elementary School
- 193 are staying until they graduate
- 210 are staying for one academic year
- 187 are in Delta on a short-term program
The top five countries (by application) are: Germany, Brazil, Italy, China and South Korea.

The International Student Program needs more homestay families for students coming to Delta in the fall. Students are looking to be part of a family during their stay.
