School District Staff Participate in Provincial Earthquake Exercise

Category: District

Last week, (Feb 7-9), the province conducted a mock exercise responding to a simulated a 6.8-magnitude earthquake that would affect the Lower Mainland. The exercise began four days after the simulated event and included nearly 200 participating organizations testing their emergency response activities with a focus on co-ordination and inter-agency communications.

School district staff had the opportunity to join our city and agency partners in training sessions and workshops leading up to the exercise as well as having a tour of the City of Delta’s Emergency Operations Centre. Our Facilities team participated by going through the process of conducting a rapid damage assessment on a few of our schools and reporting findings over our district wide radios using their best radio voice!

Activities conducted during this exercise were a success with participants eager to expand and conduct more exercises in the future.
