Seaquam Students Scoop Silver Medals at the Pacific International Judo Tournament

Seaquam students, Teya Maihara (Grade 11) and Owen Hou (Grade 10) attended the Pacific International Judo Tournament in Abbotsford recently. Both Teya and Owen won Silver medals in their respective categories. There were over 850 entries in this tournament from across Canada, the USA and other parts of the world. Congratulations to Teya and Owen!

Judo is an international Olympic sport that originated in Japan in the late 1800s. Today, Judo is practiced in dojos and schools around the world. The objective of Judo is to throw an opponent, immobilize them or force an opponent to submit by chokes or holds/locks. Judo emphasizes the use of quick movements and leverage to throw an opponent.

Owen was also selected to represent Team BC at the upcoming Canada Games in PEI. The Games run from February 18 until March 5. Please wish Owen best of luck as he competes with the best in Canada!
