Student Artwork Showcased at Delta Board of Education Meeting

Burnsview Secondary student Riely Silver showcased their artwork at the recent Delta Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, December 12.

Their drawings were inspired by the teamwork and collaboration element within the Delta School District’s Vision for 2030. The drawings are made with oil pastel on Mixed-Media Paper. Each drawing resembles a duo of animals that are known for working together or in large groups.

The piece on the left is two jellyfish. Jellyfish work together to create a current so they’re able to move faster. They also work together even if they aren’t the same type of jellyfish. If they are from the same region, they will work together towards the same motive. This represents the teamwork that the Delta School District is displaying in its Vision 2030.

On the right are two koi fish in a pond with lily pads. Koi fish have behavioral tendencies which correlate with humans. They are friendly animals that, in most cases, will form a companionship with their caretaker. They are also social animals; they often cannot be in isolation. Like humans, and especially children, they work best with others. So, nurturing the social lives and teamwork within students in the district is important to make sure they are able to achieve their best.

“Riely used their Capstone time in the Art Studio to launch this exhibition,” said Stephanie Martyniuk, art teacher. “It also aligns well with their Capstone plan to create an Art Portfolio for their Post-Secondary applications.”
