Jalen and Tyson Philpot, running back and wide receiver respectively, met with head coach Wayne Harris in Seaquam’s gym.
“They’re two of the top athletes in BC and in Canada as well,” Harris said. “We always are looking to make our program stronger and it’s nice to get great student athletes that are committed to excellence, and we certainly see that in both of these young men.”
The twins have played together on a number of football teams, including the North Delta Longhorns, the Seaquam Seahawks, Team BC and most recently with Team Canada during the International Bowl held in Texas earlier this year.
Jalen Philpot made a verbal commitment to the University of Calgary while in Texas for the tournament. Tyson was more eager, and made his commitment before leaving for the tournament.
“I just felt like Calgary was the best fit for me,” he said. “Just coaching-wise and the way they’ve been the past few years, a national contender every year, they have a chance to win it whenever they want.”
The Calgary Dinos has been a top Western Canadian team at the university level, winning Canada West’s Hardy Cup eight times in the last 10 year. It’s currently the top ranked team in Canada West.
