Acknowledgment of Traditional Unceded Territory

The Delta School District is located on the traditional and unceded territories of the Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN), the Musqueam Indian Band, and all Hun’qumi’num-speaking Peoples, who have been stewards of this land since time immemorial. We are committed to building meaningful relationships with local Indigenous communities. In the spirit of Reconciliation, we strive to deepen our collective understanding of the histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples through professional learning and personal growth. The District hopes that as our curriculum increasingly reflects and incorporates Indigenous cultures, histories, and teachings, students will develop a stronger sense of pride and confidence in their identities and choose to self-identify. All children should feel proud of who they are and where they come from.

The Indigenous Education Department in Delta

The Delta School District’s Indigenous Education Department is committed to supporting the success and well-being of students with Indigenous ancestry by honouring their identities, cultures, and ways of knowing. There are approximately 600 self-identified Indigenous students attending Delta schools, including approximately 60 students from TFN. We work alongside students, families, school staff, and local First Nations to create inclusive learning environments where Indigenous students feel a strong sense of belonging and pride. Through culturally responsive programs, academic support, leadership opportunities, and professional learning for educators, we aim to empower Indigenous students to reach their full potential.
